NN10: Nerf Neighbourhood!
Well, to begin with let's offer you SLAM's ReadMe file:
Nerf Neighborhood v1.0
By Matthew "SLAM" Duncan
Finished 6/18/2001 4:00 AM CST :-)
This project has been running and delayed for nearly five months, but now it is complete. It has become more than I hoped since its start, and I hope you appreciate it as well.
WARNING: This map pack requires a computer with very good CPU and graphics processing. If you are running on too slow a computer, or are using software rendering, it could cause your computer to crash! For reference, this is what this map was developed and tested on:
Pentium III 550 Mhz
128 MB RAM
Voodoo3 16 MB AGP
1024x768 screen resolution was used
This map pack is divided up into three maps (not four as I originally intended). There is a day, evening, and night map. The idea is for these to be run on a dedicated server with a time limit of eight hours. Thus, the three maps will elapse in the same amount of time as a 24 hour day.
Different sections of the map have different things to offer during different times of day. For example, the street party in Skyscraper area is only available in the night version. All the general areas and their main functionalities are preserved through all the maps though.
One extra support file, Hummer.utx was needed (in case you're interested, it was needed for the records on the turntables in the night version :-). Don''t ask.) I included it with this zip file since its size was relatively small compared to the rest of the package. Other than that, the entire map was built entirely from original NAB textures.
NOTES BY PLACE:
Amateur: This is the Amateur Diving Tours. Sounds great, doesn't it :-)? Basically, I couldn't think of much to do with Amateur, so it is really a double pylon sailboat in the Barracuda beach.
Sequoia: Sequoia is more or less the same as you may have known it. However, because of clipping problems, I removed the ladder and replaced it with an elevator. A snipers' ledge, accessable through tunnels, was also added.
Orbital: It seems the Orbiteers have bought the Rockheads' space restaurant! The real story: I figured the Bar & Grill was enough for the Asteroid section, and couldn't think of anything else for the Orbital :-). Because of bad clipping and zoning problems, the airlock was removed.
Barracuda: This one hasn't changed much either, except that its ladders too were removed. Check it out at night with flaming torches and hanging lanterns!
Asteroid: The simple Rockhead Bar and Grill that it's been since the beginning. Except, I wouldn't go in the bathroom if I were you.
Luna: No, this hasn't changed either :-). Just a place to sit down and watch the show.
Sky: Now this has undergone a massive change. The city is now several times the size it was, and it seems all too likely that Matrix-style chases, and alley fights will become commonplace. But don't forget to check out the laser tag arena (inspired by the game LaserArena) and the new cafe across from the construction site. And of course, at night, go get on stage, and do some scratching! If you're planning to stay the night, book a room at the hotel (Little Todd at the cash register seems overly excited about the show tonight). And if you're feeling militant, go hole up in the abandoned building across the street.
Champion: The brand-new idea I had, partially based on Air Rage Beta. This is a huge, next generation style aircraft from the huge, next generation flight corporation, Championship Airlines. There are plenty of seats aboard, and if you want to stand outside,...well...just don't go in the engine, okay? They seem to have locked the cockpit, just so you won't kill everybody else on board if you go crazy.
SLAM's Ranch: This wasn't going to be the way it is now originally. It was going to be a simple plains homestead with my cabin, but it turned into something more when I remember how much every loves
Forest. Welcome to the next Forest map...before it's even released! Yes, the cabin is mine. You may not taste the porridge, you may not sleep in my bed (alone or otherwise) and you may not walk into the shower, whether I'm there or not. Since there's nothing of strategic importance there anyway (except the teleporter back to the plaza) you usually don't need to be there unless I invite you :-). You're welcome to roam the rest of my property though, and have a good Nerf fight. There are two equal bases set up out of logs, as well as trees to run behind and bushes to hide inside (they work a bit differently here). Use the opacity of the river to your advantage, and mount surprise attacks from different angles. Have fun, and come back sometime!
I know for some of you this is a huge download, but I hope this online world has been worth the time and effort it took you.
